Fairfield Museum’s Toyshop Exhibition Set to Open This Weekend
The Fairfield Museum’s highly anticipated exhibition, “Welcome to the Toyshop!” will open on Saturday, November 16, 2024. This family-friendly exhibit will explore how toys have evolved from their counterparts in the 1800s and 1900s to the toys and games we know today. The exhibit is inspired by the iconic Blinn’s Toys store that operated in Bridgeport and Fairfield from 1933 to 2015 and emphasizes the importance of play for kids and adults alike. As Blinn’s Toys owner Albert Blinn said in an interview in 1938, “People that know how to play are usually happy, healthy, and successful.”
“Welcome to the Toyshop!” will feature a range of historic toys from the Museum’s collection including toy sewing machines, trains, tea sets, and more. Families and children will enjoy playing together in this whimsical setting and will be reminded of the sense of wonder we have all experienced while shopping in a toy store. The exhibit is sure to get you and your family in the holiday spirit and ready for the Fairfield Museum’s Annual Holiday Express Model Train Show, opening after the town’s tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
“Welcome to the Toyshop!” will be on view in the Fairfield Museum’s South Gallery from November 16, 2024 through April 13, 2025. The exhibit has been made possible in part by the generous support of Brooklyn Robot Foundry – Fairfield County, CT and Bricks & Minifigs Fairfield. Special thanks to Toy Polloi for supporting the toyshop window display.
The Fairfield Museum is located at 370 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT and is open every day from 10am to 4pm. For more information on upcoming programs and exhibitions, visit www.fairfieldhistory.org.
