85TH DOGWOOD FESTIVAL RETURNS THIS MAY!
One of the most beloved spring time traditions in Fairfield is returning this May! The 85th Dogwood Festival will take place on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. Reverend Dr. Alida Ward, one of the pastors at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, shared the origins of the festival. She stated, “Greenfield Hill Church’s Dogwood Festival originated in 1936, when the women of the church began selling refreshments and handmade craft items to visitors who came to the area each spring to view the beautiful Dogwood trees. Their purpose was to raise money for women and children’s charities.” Eighty-five years later, the festival still raises funds for charities that support women and children. She stated, “We are proud of that and it is at the heart of what we do.”
Visitors can expect around 40 - 60 vendors that will be selling a variety of baked goods, crafts and other items. If you are interested in being a vendor, you can view the application, here! The festival also holds historic walking tours on the grounds in addition to music throughout the event.
